03/05/18

We have had a fantastic start to the summer term with lots of visitors helping us with our learning already.

The English and maths sections of this blog this week have been brought to you by Ella and Lilly.

English

We have really enjoyed learning about the layers of the rainforest.  We wrote about the layers of the rainforest organising  our writing into paragraphs, using sub-headings and making sure we include information about all of the layers such as: the emergent layer, canopy, understory and forest floor. look at our write up about the layers of the rainforest!

Also, we've each chosen a rainforest animals to research about, which you might think is easy, but it is not! We have had to learn lots of scientific vocabulary. We are using ICT to search efficiently and we are going to use the information we find out to write our very own information pages. We have been looking at the layout of information texts to give us some ideas.

Maths

Last week we had a visit from people from Natwest bank helping with our maths and giving us lots to think about, such as how money is used and spent and the difference between wants and needs.

We have learning about how to covert unit of measure. It is very hard for the class to do. Most children are becoming confident with what we are doing. We have a lot to remember like how many cm in a m and how many g in a kg and that is even before we do any calculations!

Also, we have been investigating pentominoes. Using vocabulary such as rotate, reflect, flip and tessellate. Ask us and see how much we remember!

Art

We have just finished our layered art work like the pictures above and we have spent this week learning about brush control and detail, as we use insects from the rainforest and their beautiful patterns as inspiration to create detailed decorated origami insects.

Science

We have started our science topic on plants by dissecting daffodils and learning all of the parts a flowering part needs to produce. We have also designed and set up our own experiments to find our what exactly cress seeds need to germinate.

P.E

We are very lucky to have Kevin in our P.E lessons at the moment to give us some professional coaching on our cricket skills. Learning how to bowl overarm, catch efficiently, bat and collect runs.

In other news...

We had a really interesting time with the people from the Norfolk Records Office on our Norfolk Welcomes day, as we learnt all about the history of refugees in our county.

Finally, Well done to the choir for giving it their all at the Norfolk big sing this week. The sun was shining and a fantastic time was had by all singing along with pop stars at the Norfolk show ground.

Wow! I just wanted to say well done for a fabulous last few days. Thank-you to all who to made it to the church for our Easter Celebration. I think we can all agree the children's performances were just stunning.

The whole of Seahorse looked fantastic in their book character costumes on our belated World Book Day. The activities such as: creating book covers, making book marks and even a visit to Swaffham library were thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Happy Easter everybody and looking forward to seeing you all on April 16th ready for the summer term.

Week beginning 19.03.18

As Easter rapidly approaches here is a quick round up of our most recent learning activities and events.

Let's start with a few photographs from the share cafe. It was lovely to spend time with so many parents, grandparents and carers; enjoying stories and some creative activities such as making ushabtis and painting frescos.

Maths

The past topic has been all about measure, as we have been using the units for measuring length, mass, capacity and even angles. Ask us if we can remember the units for each one. We have been reading a variety of scales, estimating and problem solving to develop our skills. This week we have been learning about turns and hunting for right-angles.

Literacy

We have been writing in role as Howard Carter, our local celebrity, as we learn how to write diary entries. We have described, in the detail, the momentous day that we discovered the lost tomb of Tutankhamen.  It was great to see all of the skills we have learnt so far this year come together to produce fantastic work that included rich descriptions of the authors thoughts and feelings.

History

We have really been enjoying our topic of the ancient Egyptians this half term. We have: used press release clippings as evidence to build up a picture of the past,  held mummification ceremonies, learnt about the different farming seasons and how it affected their lives and discovered all about life in as an ancient Egyptian.

In other news..

We all had a great time on Friday racing around the field for an obstacle course in aid of sports relief.

A massive well done to year 3/4 cheerleading team for such a successful cheer event.

This half term has produced an extremely high standard of creative challenge homework including: masks and model pyramids, salt dough models, mummies in sarcophaguses, model houses and fantastic fact displays. We even had a mummified tomato and some mummy cupcakes! Super effort everybody!

Finally, don't forget to help us round off the spring term with our Easter celebration at the church on Wednesday 28th March. Come and listen to us perform some prayers, poems and readings and join in with a few songs.
