Welcome back everyone! What a fantastic start to the new school year it has been. The Seahorse class have quickly slipped into their new roles in Key stage two, learning all  of the new routines quickly and setting a fantastic example to all. Well done Seahorse class, I just know it is going to be a fantastic year!

Don't forget to check the blog frequently to find out all about what has been happening in the classroom and special events.

Week Beginning 10.07.17

The week started with a treat with a football skills teacher visiting to give each class a master class in ball skills.

ICT

We have really enjoyed our IT topic of programming this term, as we have used algorithms to create our own game using KODU. This week we played our completed games, found other similar games and wrote comparison reviews.

Maths

This week we have been tackling problems involving scale. We worked out how much larger certain rain forest animals would be whilst working to a set scale; and made a fruit cocktail by scaling down a recipe.

Some of us moved on to our last lesson of shape for the year: making 3D shapes. We created skeleton shapes using pipe cleaners and straw; folded card shapes from nets and looked carefully at the shapes of the faces to build some out of polygon.

In other news...

A massive well done to all those children in the seahorse class who went out for their first graduation. What a fantastic achievement!
Finally, we look forward to seeing as many friends and family as possible at our end of year viola performance in the school hall at 11:30am Monday 17th July.

Week Beginning 3.07.17

Literacy

In literacy, we have been revising lots of the different punctuation and grammar that we have learnt over the past academic year such as: plurals, nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, expanded noun phrases, present perfect tense, inverted commas and fronted adverbials. We put our skills to the test and had plenty of giggles using Mad Libs to create silly stories.

We also continued our letters to the president of Honduras; structuring a formal letter. We wrote clear introductory paragraphs and powerful sentences explaining out point of view.

Numeracy

We have been revisiting fractions for the final time this year using fraction walls and finding equivalent fractions to complete equivalent fraction colour by fraction pictures.

Music

In Music, the year 3s have been putting together lots of performance pieces that showcase all of the skills we have been building this year whilst learning the viola. We look forward to performing our concert to the school and parents on Monday 17th July at 11.30am.

Week Beginning 26.06.17

Literacy

In literacy this week, we discovered an online letter writing campaign. We learnt that a dam is going to be built in Honduras in Central America. We researched how building a dam affects the surrounding environment and found out that the Tawahka tribe that live in the nearby forest will have to move away and change their life completely. We looked at the pros and cons, organised facts into reasons for and against and have decided to write a letter to the Honduran Prime Minister Sr. Porfirio Lobo Sosa to help the tribe's people. We  have been practising using persuasive sentence starts and using conjunctions to fully explain the reasons and our point of view.

Maths

In maths, we have been brushing up on our rounding skills and taking it all a step further by rounding to both the nearest 10 and 100 in numbers up to 1000. We have been using our rounding skills to estimate answers to questions and problems and to mark work.

R.E

In RE this week we have been learning all about the Holy Trinity: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. We made trinity flexigons that have colours and pictures that represent each part of the trinity.

Science

In science this week, we had great fun as our year 2 and 3 topics overlaps whilst learning about humans and other animals. We looked at the structure and purpose of the human skeleton learning all of the common names and even some of the scientific ones. We really enjoyed listening and singing along to 'Dem Bones' whilst putting together our skeleton jigsaws.

Well done to Sky and Carley-Mae who performed at the Royal Norfolk Show this week with The Choir of 1000 Voices.

It was lovely to see so many of you brave the rain and come for the school BBQ lunch. We didn't let the rain get us down and enjoyed spending time together in what turned out to be a rather lovely indoor picnic!
