Week Beginning 15.05.17

Maths

In maths this week, we have continued with our unit on measure. We have looked at the units used to measure capacity and attempted lots of different practical activities; from estimating 1 litre, making our own measuring scales and estimating and measuring mystery vessels.

We have also started our second unit of the year on time. We can now all tell the time to the nearest minute in digital and  are starting to tackle the 24hr clock.

Literacy/Science

We have finished our information pages and I am sure you will agree they look fantastic!

We have combined lots of skills together to make these eye-catching pieces if work, such as: our knowledge of the biodiversity of the rain forest; using adverbs and other interesting techniques to start a sentence; compound and subordinating conjunctions; technical vocabulary; researching and taking notes; knowing the key features and layout of an information text and organising our writing into paragraphs. Phew!

We have also been looking at the life-cylce of a flowering plant in science and have used our new skills to make an explanation text all about the different stages: germination, growth, pollination, fertilisation and dispersal. All helped by our very own classroom full of flowers and pollinating bees!

P.E

In PE this week we are starting our summer topic of team games.  We have practised lots of ball skills and lots of activities that require us to watch and listen carefully to our partners and team mates. Ask us to demonstrate 1,2,3-clap,jump,click.

In other news... fingers crossed that the weather holds for our annual FOSA summer school fete. Come along on Saturday at 1:00pm to enjoy lots of games, refreshments and browse the many stalls.

Finally, we are all looking forward to our class trip to the Amazona Zoo where we will get to talk to experts about the rain forest habitat, experience a humid climate in the reptile and plant hot house climate and learn all about the diet and feeding habits of our favourite animals that we have been learning about. The date for consent letters is Friday 19th May and we are only waiting on just a couple of returns so please hand them in to Miss Palmer or the office ASAP. Thank-you.
